It's a kind of common topic. I've always had differing opinions on what socialising actually is with numerous people. People like my parents especially, or maybe (what society would label) the cool kids will say that socialising online isn't the same as meeting people face to face, or just say staying at home means you have no social life. Well, some of you may disagree, I actually only disagree to SOME extent. Let's EXPAND ON THAT.
Socialising.
Let's talk about later.
I believe that in the future, human interaction will reduce gradually or maybe intensely if a completely innovative device gets introduced or something. This could lead to minimal human interaction. dun dun dunnnnn!!!
Well I talk about a future where disasters of global scale or near apocalyptic levels of destruction may occur. (which is possible guys, i'm sure the dinosaurs were like, what meteor?) (i know the dinosaur thing is just a theory) Of course I believe that 0 human interaction won't be achieved ever, or maybe in the very far future.
So back to the point of socialising, existent or not in the future, what would it be like?
We have new technologies like oculus rift, improved internet that makes internet calling/texting whatnot easier. Fast forward 60 years? 100 years? Holographs are commercialised, Skype:Holograph. When you video call someone, instead of a screen, out comes a holograph of the person. He/She's practically there! Well, aside from sight and hearing, the other senses can't detect this holograph.
This brings me to the point of face to face interaction. Nothing will be the same as face to face interaction. The feeling of smell, touch, body language. Things like that, can never be properly replicated until maybe later. What happens then? Meeting maybe a perfect hologram of your significant other, is it still face to face? I guess we need to define what face to face is.
My definition is pretty simple: Being able to slap the person in front of you, and that person is gonna feel it.
Well the American Heritage Dictionary (fancy) defines it as "being in the presence of another, facing: a face-to-face discussion."
or "A meeting, especially a meeting between two people conducted in person as opposed to meeting conducted at a distance through technology"
So reading these definitions, even if the hologram mimics everything about the person, its still not that person.
Socialising just wouldn't be the same later.
BUT. Does it change the ability to meaningfully communicate with each other, be it face to face or through technology?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyKXPOg7MZ4
Even without holograms people still find ways to communicate through technology in the most meaningful ways possible and it's quite fantastic. How can we deny technology as a form of socialising when it can bring us closer than never before. It expands our social circle to halfway across the globe. It can even be used as a social device when face to face meetings actually occur!
I think its amazing how humans can create something out of nothing. Technology is like a knife, "It's your choice whether to use it or not.. you could use it to stab people.. or you could use it to cut onions and make people cry.."
Socialising now.
This section will be based more personally then in the general context of socialising. I guess that'll be the general format of LaterthenNow series, so if there are any statements you disagree with, tough luck, or leave a comment if it really tickles your internetwarrior spirit.
First of all, I believe i'm a social person. Not the most sociable, i'm still considered an extrovert. But i believe with many extroverts there will be times where you just want to be alone, and vice versa for introverts. (or not, who knows?) Whilst I am a social, extroverted person, i happen to take interest in things that don't require much human interaction. Gaming. Yes, I have other interests as well, dancing, being retarded etc. But my main past time is gaming. I can play for ages as long as I have multiple games to alternate between. Most of the time i'm actually sick of gaming but I play for the sake of it. (I know, it's bad)
Anywho, people think that gaming is unsociable and i can agree with that to some extent. Certain games certainly demotes socialising rather than promote it. Single player games that take eons of your time completing or just hand held games on phones etc. that creates this barrier of "do not disturb" to anyone around you. Well, i play games that require communication, the most popular game in the world (fact) league of legends is one of them. Teamwork. That's the key. Communication, that's the key as well. And, i almost always play with friends when playing league, so that's my social circle right there. I actually just made a friend online from league. (nojk) i told him my life stories (dw he's not a pedo, i hope.) it was great. Now we have this playdate thing tomorrow, where we'll play together, how cool is that. I dont even now him that well.
I guess some people might still label us gamers as losers or no-life but let me throw this out there. (if we are losers how do we pay for our stuff?) ( we work for it! well some of us.)
Well I guys this paragraph is just meant to say, just because we don't socialise face to face doesn't make it any less real. I've had good times and even bad ones too. Thanks to skype and endless typing of "lolgetrekt" "getgudnub" and many more phrases which some may include reducing the status of a person like myself to that of a poo.
I love it I love the atmosphere of being in a group skype call and just playing with a group of friends with the same interest. No dramas (well, minimal), just laughs and good times.
Of course there is also dancing, i really love dancing as well. It's wonderful, I think i'm quite good at it according to the people around me. Except i'm never really sure whether they're being truthful or not because i've seen some pretty sublime dancers get praise they definitely do not deserve. So that's always been my paranoia. But at the end of the day, be it i'm good or i'm bad, i just love to dance, so who cares? I have an even smaller and less frequent social circle in terms of dancing because I'm usually a solo casual dancer. So yea, i guess my stand on human interaction is that, even if it's not face to face, even if it's just hearing their wonderful voice. As long as there s communication with a form of emotion attached, then it should still be counted as socialising. Facebook has always been an "eh" for me. I talk to people i don't usually talk to in person, and when I do, it's pretty awkward. This girl i've been talking to for a few weeks now is awks mcgawks in person, and i am as well when i talk to her, but I guess as time goes by and we kind of talk to each in person a little bit by bit, it starts to get okay.
(i bullied her a bit, just to get comfortable)
Oh and I'd rather stay at home than go out (depending on the people, or what the event is about)
So yea I guess that's about it from me.
I had more content at the start of the post, but I procrastinated on this throughout the day, and my train of thoughts derailed a couple of times.
So yea, if it ever sounds disjointed or messy, sorry about that.
I'll be more disciplined in due time i guess.
Also I'm trying to start a series of posts called LaterthenNow, not sure if i've said this earlier in this post but yea. This is to help me discipline myself in terms of writing posts consistently.
Don't really have a schedule, I guess i'll slowly make one.

Let's reach blogging euphoria together. (still trying to make "blogging euphoria" happen)
